Palm to Palm: The Pursuit for Sustainable Living Project
[Palm to Palm:] The production of palm oil is linked to the death and displacement of many primates species, especially the iconic Asian great ape, the orangutans, as well as other critically rare and endangered plant and animal species. Palm oil production puts local human populations at risk through the use of fertilizers, pesticides, enforced child labor, reduction of access to natural resources in the forest, and pollution run-off in local waterways and into the soil.
Extractive practices such as oil palm farming and palm oil production are leading causes of climate change due to deforestation, as well as pollution, economic instability, and exploitation of local human communities. Deforestation further drives the extinction of critically endangered orangutans and other rare and threatened animal and plant species. The Pursuit for Sustainable Living project is committed to certifying educational institutions as “Palm Oil-Reduced” in order to contribute to protecting humans, native habitats, and wildlife across the globe.
The Pursuit for Sustainable Living objective is to halt further exploitation of natural environments that threaten humans and wildlife in tropical regions around the globe, thereby damaging the world for all who live in it. We work to achieve sustainable living by forming coalitions with educational and other institutions to avoid the use of palm oil in foods and other consumer products.
