Industrial palm oil production is linked to deforestation, biodiversity loss, and the climate crisis. It is also associated with land conflicts, labor exploitation, and the displacement of Indigenous and rural communities in the Global South. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to the complex and interconnected challenges palm oil presents, but we in our own small way are doing something about it. We advocate reducing the use of palm oil and expanding alternatives and agroforestry. We strive for a transition away from extractive monocultures toward transparent, accountable, and community-led systems that protect ecosystems, uphold land rights, and promote long-term environmental and social well-being.
Palm-to-Palm’s education programs connect communities, researchers, and activists to deepen understanding of the environmental and social impacts of unsustainable palm oil. Through speaker events like Inside the Activist's Studio, accessible educational materials, and community outreach, these programs share real-world stories, research, and practical tools for change. By making complex issues understandable and actionable, our education initiatives empower individuals and institutions to make informed decisions and contribute to a more just and sustainable palm oil system.
The Palm Oil Action Certification for Institutions helps organizations take meaningful steps against the negative impacts of unsustainable palm oil. It evaluates palm oil procurement practices, raises awareness about sustainable alternatives, and recognizes leadership in reducing environmental and social harm while fostering a culture of sustainability across communities.
